THE CALCULATION OF THE MAGNETIC FIELD OF ROTATING MACHINES Part 3.—Eddy Currents Induced in a Solid Slab by a Circular Current Loop
نویسنده
چکیده
The paper contains a detailed analysis of the eddy currents induced in a semi-infinite slab by a circular current outside the slab. Particular attention is paid to the magnetic field outside the slab, and the conditions are explained under which the method of images can be safely applied. The effective impedance of the slab is calculated, and the results are compared with recent experimental work. The application of the work to the end-fields of rotating machines is discussed, and it is shown that the diameter of the end-windings and the degree of saturation of the end-plates have a profound effect on the eddy-current behaviour.

Calculation of the magnetic field of rotating machines Part 4. Approximate determination of the field and the losses associated with eddy currents in conducting surfaces
The paper discusses the relationship between the eddy currents flowing inside a conducting material and the magnetic field outside. The particular problem of a current sheet carrying a sinusoidally distributed current parallel to a conducting magnetic slab is examined in detail. It is shown that this mathematical model is relevant to the calculation of eddy-current losses in many types of rotat...

Two nondestructive electromagnetic/magnetic techniques including hysteresis loop and eddy current methodologies have been used to characterize microstructural changes of AISI D2 cold work tool steel as a result of quench and tempering treatments. To measure the fraction retained austenite in quenched microstructure, six specimens were austenitized in the range of 1000-1130 °C. Samples austenit...

Magnetic induction tomography (MIT) is a promising modality for noninvasive imaging due to its contactless technology. Being a non-contact safe imaging technique, MIT has been an appropriate method in compare to other electrical tomography. In this imaging method, a primary magnetic field is applied by excitation coils to induce eddy currents in the material to be studied and a secondary magnet...
متن کاملMagnetic Flux Fluctuations Due to Eddy Currents and Thermal Noise in Metallic Disks
We derive expressions for the magnetic flux in a circular loop due to eddy currents and thermal noise in coaxial metallic disks. The eddy currents are induced by an applied field that changes sinusoidally in time. We give expressions for the eddy current noise when the frequency of the applied field is very low as well as when it is very high. We combine these expressions to obtain one that is ...
